Ecosystems At Risk Class Research Task
Imagine you are a member of an environmental group competing for a monetary grant from
the Federal Government (it doesn't have to be Australia). The main concern of your group is
the protection of vulnerable ecosystems.
Part 1:
Name and describe the ecosystem you wish to protect
The Pacific Ocean extends from the Antarctic region in the south to the Arctic region n the
north. The body of salt water lies between three continents Asia, Australia and North and
South America. Covering approximately one third of the surface of the Earth, the Pacific
Ocean’s average depth is 4.280 metres, with its largest known depth 11.034 metres in the
Mariana Trench; this depth is also the deepest found in any ocean across the globe.
Describe where the ecosystem is located ( provide a map).
The Pacific Ocean contains more than double the amount of water as the Atlantic Ocean
and stretches from Antarctica’s shores to the Berlin Straight, 8.7832°S, 124.5085°W.
