Herringdine’s landscaper put in these Georgia granite steps that divide the shade garden. From left to right, white blooms of 15-year-old oakleaf hydrangea ‘Pee-Wee,’ hellebores from seedlings her mother gave her 35 years ago and variegated Jacob’s ladder. On the right is arum italicum, salmon salvia in a pot, wild geranium ‘Roxanne,’ undulate male fern, dark red daylily foliage and great red hibiscus foliage.
Above, Hydrangea Endless Summer ‘Twin-n-Shout’ is a beautiful lacecap specimen.
Right, About 20 years, Herringdine started growing confederate Jasmine on the trellis. Underneath is an autumn fern, and in the pot on the table is a begonia boliviensis ‘San Francisco’ just starting to bloom.
At the first granite step is dwarf mondo grass. Also included are arum italicum, ajuga, salmon salvia in a pot from an estate sale, hellebores, wild geranium, ‘Rozanne,’ undulated male fern, cinnamon fern, candytuft and chrysanthemum ‘Ryan’s Pink,’ ajuga ‘Chocolate Chip,’ oakleaf hydrangea ‘Pee-Wee’ variegated Jacob’s ladder and hellebores.
