THE MIGHTY
Life is often called a journey. Each journey is like a race, it has a start and finish line. There
will be difficult times on your journey along with enjoyable ones. There will be days you will
want to give up and quit and days you decide to dig deeper and press on. Ultimately there will
come a day when you discover that victory over self is the ultimate achievement this side of
heaven. Perhaps you will wonder if you are on this journey alone. Let us reassure you that you
are not!
In “The Message” translation of the Bible, Eugene Peterson titled Hebrews 12 as
“Discipline in a Long-Distance Race.”
“Do you see what this means – all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these
veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start
running – and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on
Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because
he never lost sight of where he was headed – that exhilarating finish in and with
God – he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And
now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves
flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of
hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!” (Hebrews
12: 1-2, Msg.)
“Veterans cheering us on” gives us a powerful indication that others have taken this journey
and arrived at their destination. We call them THE MIGHTY! Now, it’s your turn to make
the most of your journey. We are here to help you reach your destination in victory by learning
the ‘Traits from the Greats’ that have gone before us.
THE MIGHTY is a comprehensive, easy to use, devotional series where athletes learn from the
Greats in Scripture all while incorporating stories of past and present sports figures. This
unique twist on combining scripture and sports leads the way on how write your story.
Not only does your story matter, but the world is waiting for you to tell it.
