Duties and rights of children
What rights and duties do you have as a pupil and as a child?
Ask yourself the following questions.
a) What would you like your parents to do for you?
b) What wouldn’t you like your parents or other people to
do to you?
c) What responsibilities do you have at school and at home?
Children have rights. Some of the rights are to be loved and
to be educated. Children also have the right to quality health
care and the right to eat a balanced diet. They have the right
to be heard and protected. However, children are required to
fulfi l their duties. Their duties are to work hard, love others
and take care of their health. They must obey their parents
and teachers. They should also help others.
Think of the following actions which show the rights and duties
of children. Put a tick (√) in the column of your choice.
See the examples given in 1 and 2.
