P. 6
Due to the needs of the learners, the progression step they are working at typically does
not correlate with their age. The majority of the settings discussed herein follow the
Curriculum for Wales; however, some settings follow the Developmental Pathways, and
the Youth Service Curriculum.
This report discusses the current landscape of CCSE in ALN and alternative provision
settings in Wales, identifies where gaps exist, and provides suggestions for more
inclusive and consistent CCSE in Wales. Through addressing the gaps identified it will be
possible to foster truly inclusive CCSE. This will drive sustained behaviour change by
young people across all settings, which is essential if Wales is to meet its climate
ambitions of net zero emissions by 2050.
“For my ALN learners...you’re just sort of
breaking it down aren’t you about sort of
being kind to our planet and being kind to
where we live… it’s just about embedding
behaviours... …it's just changing those
behaviours from a young age and, you know,
and then they keep them going then”.
