Cultural Identity
Historical background,
Although Macao has been shaped by Chinese culture extensively, the Latin
geographical and natural
and Lusophone cultural elements also have enriched it since colonial era.
The legacy of Portuguese culture remains until now (e.g. design of towns,
features of the city
architectural style.) For example, the Catholic church had conceded to
accept the Chinese “theistic cult” of ancestor worship.
St. Lowrance Church,
one Catholic church
adopted the Chinese
“theistic cult” of
ancestor worship.
