Disadvantages of Group Work
1. High performing students are usually fearful because of the view that this will
negatively affect their scores and grades.
2. Group work may promote inequity of contribution of individuals and results in unfair
award of scores.
3. Lack of individual accountability.
4. A common grade may lead to higher marks for students who perform poorly and lower
marks for those who perform better.
5. Possibility of group members’ freeloading or exhibiting overdependence on others in
the completion of tasks.
