The Day A Robber Came Into Our Home
As a rule, my parents would remind us to stay
indoors and ensure that the doors are locked
when they were at work. I must admit though,
that it was a reminder that we often overlooked.
After all, it is Montserrat, where one can sleep
with their doors open without any fear.
It was the summer of 2019. School had recently
come to a close and, like most families, we were
looking forward to a long-awaited family
vacation.
My dad, a police officer and mom, a nurse, were
always honest with my siblings and I about their
financial capabilities, telling us upfront what
allowances each would receive. To minimize their
visit to the bank, a large sum was withdrawn and
kept in a safe place within our home or so we
thought!
We were scheduled to leave the island on the
Wednesday of the new week and thought it was a
great idea to visit the beach the weekend before.
