Detailed criteria required for each experimental skill are listed (syll.2017, pgs. 45 to
51). Also examples of materials which can be used are also named, such as red onion
epidermis (Unit 1, Module 1, Obj. 3.2) and yeast (Unit 1, Module 1, Obj. 4.3)
A new column of “Suggested Practical Activities” is included.
Suggested teaching and learning activities, a list of resources and websites are
included at the end of each module. Previously this was not always done.
There is a detailed outline for the research project, with criteria for marking the
project ( syll. 2017, pgs. 137 to141)
SBA
Experimental skills to be developed are the same as in 2007 syllabus as in 2017
syllabus
Each skill carries a mark of 9 instead of 12 as in 2007 syllabus. This means that the
SBA Total is now 45 marks instead of 48 (as in 2007 syllabus).
In the 2007 syllabus the Internal Assessment (SBA) consisted of selected practical
exercises (20%). In the 2017 syllabus the SBA consist of selected practical exercises
and one research project in any Unit and any CAPE Sciences (20%).
External moderation will now be done by moderators who will visit each centre
during Term 2/3. The moderator will remark the skills and projects of a sample.
