My Grandma’s Mango Tree
D
o you know my grandmother? Well if you
don’t, let me tell you, she is very special to me
and everything around her is special.
About forty-five yards behind my grandmother’s
house is a mango tree. It stands tall above all the
trees. There is a guava tree. Further along, there is
another mango tree. Around the roots of the
trees, grass is allowed to grow.
The many wide spreading branches provide much
needed shade. The thick clusters of dark green
leaves can be seen everywhere. There are lots of
ripe mangoes on the trees. Some are yellow and
ready to eat while several are still green. I eat two
of these sweet mangoes every day during the
mango season. The trees sometimes bear more
than once a year. This way, they provide a
constant source of food for my friends’ hungry
bellies.
