(d)    has  a  strong  appreciation  of  family  and  kinship  values,  community  cohesion,  and
                              moral issues including responsibility for and accountability to self and community;

                       (e)    demonstrates a positive work ethic; and,

                       (f)    values and displays the creative imagination in its various manifestations and nurtures
                              its development in the economic and entrepreneurial spheres in all other areas of life.

               7.      The discussion on the selected attributes from the UNESCO Pillars of Learning focused on:

                       (a)    Learning to know, by providing the cognitive tools required to better comprehend the
                              world and its complexities and to provide appropriate adequate foundation for future
                              learning;

                       (b)    Learning to do, by providing the skills that would enable individuals to effectively
                              participate in the global economy and society; and,

                       (c)    Learning  to  transform  one’s  self  and  society,  by  empowering  people  to  assume
                              responsibility for creating and enjoying a sustainable future.

               ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA

               8.      The meeting adopted the Agenda at Appendix I.

               REPORT OF THE REVIEW COMMITTEE

               9.      The Assistant Registrar/SCD presented the report of the CSEC® Music Review Meeting which
               was held on 23–25 August 2016.  The members of the Panel noted that the Review Committee, having
               reviewed the Technical Report of the Assistant Registrar/EDPD and the Chief Examiner’s Report, and
               having deliberated on teachers’ concerns, and the participants in the needs assessment exercises, the
               Review Committee for the CSEC® Music Syllabus proposed the amendments summarised below.

                       (a)    Revision of the Rationale, Aims, General Objectives.

                       (b)    Clarification and elaboration of Specific Objectives and Content.

                       (c)    Re-organisation of the syllabus document in keeping with the policies of the Council
                              with respect to syllabus development.

                       (d)    The  syllabus  should  comprise  three  restructured  and  renamed  Sections  namely,
                              Section  1  –  Listening  and  Appraising,  Section  2  –  Performing;  and,  Section  3  –
                              Composing.

                       (e)    Revision of the guidelines provided to teachers to include Suggested Teaching and
                              Learning  Activities  in  each  section  of  the  syllabus  to  help  teachers  cater  to  the
                              different learning styles and to stimulate and maintain interest in the subject area.

                       (f)    Revision of the list of Resources to include current print and electronic sources.
