Proposed Model for Levels of training to be offered through the CXC Learning Institute.
I. Teacher Orientation Workshops (TOWs). The CXC Learning Institute will become the arm
through which TOWs will be offered. The Council is mandated to conduct TOWs for newly
developed and revised syllabuses to orient teachers to the new requirements of each syllabus. A
new model for TOWs will be introduced through the CXC Learning Institute. TOWs will be offered
via a combination of synchronous and asynchronous means using a blend of both online and face-
to-face (f2f) sessions. Starting in 2018, there will be scheduled live sessions to orient teachers to
the requirements of the syllabuses. Additionally, there will be training resources available online
that can be accessed on demand to augment these online live sessions. The schedule will be shared
with regional ministries of education by February each year detailing the times and dates for the
live workshops. This approach will increase the number of teachers accessing workshop sessions
as well as resources that will better equipp them to implement syllabuses in the suite of offering.
Additionally, a limited number of f2f sessions will be planned and conducted in host territories as
per current model for TOWs. The f2f sessions will be recorded and available through the relevant
Virtual Subject Associations (VSAs) as part of the Council’s drive to provide learning support
resources for both teachers and learners.
II. Extended Training Programme. The extended training programme is designed to provide
participants with more in-depth exposure to the content of particular syllabuses. These are subject
specific training sessions that are conducted by content experts who have served as CXC resource
persons. The proposed model for the extended training programmes is a combination of online and
f2f sessions. Sessions that are conducted fully online will be provided free of cost to participants.
However, when the f2f approach is requested by a territory and used as the delivery modality for
the training, the territory requesting f2f sessions will be required to cover the cost for the facilitator
to travel to the territory to offer the session.
