2. Use of Knowledge (UK)
(a) Application
The ability to:
(i) use facts and apply concepts, principles and procedures in familiar and in
novel situations;
(ii) transform data accurately and appropriately; and,
(iii) use formulae accurately for computational purposes.
(b) Analysis and Interpretation
The ability to:
(i) identify and recognise the component parts of a whole and interpret the
relationship among those parts;
(ii) identify causal factors and show how they interact with each other;
(iii) infer, predict and draw conclusions; and,
(iv) make necessary and accurate calculations and recognise the limitations and
assumptions involved.
(c) Synthesis
The ability to:
(i) combine component parts to form a new and meaningful whole; and,
(ii) make predictions and solve problems.
(d) Evaluation
The ability to:
(i) make reasoned judgements and recommendations based on the value of
ideas and information and their implications;
(ii) analyse and evaluate information from a range of sources to give concise and
coherent explanations of scientific phenomena; and,
(iii) assess the validity of scientific statements, experiments, results, conclusions
and inferences.
