               Comments from Specialists

               13. The Assistant Registrar/SCD advised the Panel that the revised draft Law Syllabus was also
               sent to specialists who were asked to comment on the following:

                      (a)     the value of the syllabus for preparing students for further education;

                      (b)     the value of the syllabus for providing skills necessary for life;

                      (c) the value of the syllabus for preparing students for the world of work; and,

                      (d) any other aspect of the syllabus.

               14. Mr Haimchan Ramdeo, Education Manager for the Association of Chartered Certified
               Accountants (ACCA) Caribbean based in Trinidad and Tobago, Mr Albert Mitchell, Attorney-at-Law and
               Lecturer at the TA Marryshow Community College in Grenada, and Mr Brendon LaTouche, Crown
               Counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution in Grenada, responded (See Appendix IIb).

               15. According to Mr Ramdeo, when mapped against the professional programmes and
               certifications awarded by ACCA, the syllabus was found to contain common elements. There were
               topics and skills covered in the syllabus that were also covered by different programmes and levels
               offered by ACCA. The CXC® offering therefore sets a good foundation, and puts any candidate who
               successfully completes it in a good position to matriculate into ACCA programmes and be certified
               within a reasonable period depending on their interest and specialisation. Moreover, he thinks it is
               commendable that the Council has introduced the new SBA policy which permits in-school candidates
