My Experience of the La Soufriere Volcano


         survived and some persons travelling to and from

         the  villages.  What  amazed  me  most  were  the

         beaches  and  rivers.  The  beaches  had  been
         extended  and  rivers  widened  because  of  the

         built-up  of  lahars,  massive  rocks  and  other  debris

         brought  down  from  the  mountains  by  pyroclastic

         flows. The landscape of the “Red Zone” was totally

         transformed.  It  looked  like  a  “ghost  town”  in  a

         horror  movie.  Luckily,  some  buildings  were  still
         standing with minimal damage. The sight was very

         depressing to me.
