APPENDIX “A”
PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE—OTHER RANKS
Effective from 1 st February, 1956, which was the same on i 1st December, 1956
1. A recruit on joining receives Rs 250/- per month. He is entitled to an increment of
Rs 5/- per month for every year served up to ten years. The maximum pay he can
draw is, therefore, Rs 300/- after ten years service.
2. N.C.O. ranks carry the same basic pay, but with a rank allowance in addition as
follows :
Lance Corporal .. Rs 7/8/-
Corporal .! Rs 15/-
Sergeant .. Rs 30/-
Sergeant-Major .. Rs 50/-
3. In addition to pay, every member of the Force with the exception of commissioned
officers, receive a ration the value of which is Rs 54/14/- per month (see Appendix “B")
4. Provident Fund—1 anna in the rupee (this is deducted from basic pay and is given
back at double the amount on termination of service).
5. Accommodation—Free quarters in Fort Area, free light and water.
6. Uniform—provided free by the Government.
7. Medical—Free medical treatment.
8. Leave—Annual leave, 30 days.
Casual leave, 15 days. Accumulation allowed.
9. Service—A contract of four years renewable.
