                   death of the author about 557/1161. The Mu$annaf is of obvious
                   importance in Iba<JI legal literature and also contains some biographical

                   Tufrfat aI-a‘ySn bi-sirat ‘UmSn, Kuwait, 1974 (5th edit.), 1, 109. Cf. also

                      By far the most common composition in this category is the Bayan
                    al-shar‘ by Muhammad b. Ibrahim al-Kindl in 72 volumes. By a stroke of
                    good fortune a very modem copy (1394/1974) in manuscript of Qatfdah fi
                    ma'rifat ajza’ Bay£n al-shar‘ by Najdah b. ‘Abd al-Sallam came to hand.
                    Spot checks revealed that the poem gives an accurate list of contents for
                    the 72 volumes of the BayUn. Before presenting the MSS of the BaySn,
                    therefore, this list of contents is produced as follows:
