                                                     (a)
                  Letter, dated September 17, 1937, from Petroleum Concessions Limited to the
                        Ruler of Sharjah undertaking to make additional monthly payments to him
                        under the Concession Agreement.
                      In confirmation of the arrangement made between Your Excellency and myself
                  —acting for and on behalf of Petroleum Concessions, Limited—it Is agreed that the
                  Company shall pay to Your Excellency—for your personal account with the
                  Eastern Bank Limited, Bahrain—the sum of Rupees Eight hundred and thirty-three
                  Annas five and Pies four only (Rs. 833.5.4) per mensem. Such monthly payments
                  shall begin to accrue from the date of signature of the Sharjah Oil Concession
                  Agreement and shall continue until that date upon which the yearly payment of
                  Rs. 50,000 becomes operative as provided for in Article No. 5 (c) of the above-
                  mentioned Concession Agreement.
                      2.  When the said yearly payment of Rs. 50,000 becomes operative then the
                  monthly payments of Rs. 833. 5. 4 shall cease and Your Excellency shall have no
                  further claim upon the Company in respect of this latter provided that the Company
                  has paid all the monthly payments that may have become due prior to the date
                  upon which the annual payment of Rs. 50,000 became effective.
                      3.  But should it become obligatory upon the Company—during the period
                  that the annual rental of Rs. 30,000 is operative—to increase the yearly rental
                  payment to Rs. 90,000 to comply with the conditions laid down in Article No. 5 (d)t
                  then the monthly payments of Rs. 833. 5. 4 shall cease upon that date upon which
                  the yearly rental of Rs. 90,000 becomes operative, and this latter date shall replace
                  that specified in paragraphs 1 and 2 hereof in connection with the annual payment
                  of Rs. 50,000 becoming operative.

                 Amendment Number 1, dated February 26, 1946, to the Agreement, prolonging by
                       5 years (to the end of September 1952) the period allowed for drilling

                      1. This Agreement made the Twenty-sixth day of February One thousand
                 Nine Hundred and Forty-Six between His Excellency Shaikh Sultan bin Saqr al
                 Qassim, Ruler of Sharjah and its territories (hereinafter called “ The Ruler ”) of
                 the first part and Mr. Basil Henry Lermitte, attorney of Petroleum Development
                 (Trucial Coast) Limited (hereinafter called “ The Company ”) of the other part
                 is hereafter referred to as “Amendment dated Twenty-sixth February 1946 to
                 Sharjah ^j^$g^greement the Ruler and the Company agree to amend Paragraph B
                 nf Schedule No 1, Page 2 which formed an integral part of the Oil Concession
                 Agreement which was signed on the 17th September, 1937, corresponding to the
