would be entitled unilaterally to denounce the present agreement and
the arrangements made under it. And once the 1965 Agreement falls
to the ground, the annexation of the two parts of the Zone becomes
null and void and the two parties would have to revert to the 1922
Convention.
At any rate, the 1965 Agreement has greatly alleviated the enormous
administrative and jurisdictional difficulties which had, for many
years past, hindered the co-Partncrs from exercising their sovereign
rights in the Zone on an equal basis. Moreover, the significance of
this agreement lies in the fact that it opens the door to a new era of
full co-operation between the two neighbouring Arab States in matters
relating to the future exploitation of natural resources in the Zone.
