2. An Omani by Naturalisation: According to Article 2, this
applies to a foreigner who can obtain an Omani nationality if he has
established normal and legitimate residence in Oman for a period of
ten years at least. In the case of a foreigner married to an Omani
woman, this period can be reduced to two years only, after the date
of the said marriage. In addition, the Law requires the following
conditions to be satisfied by an applicant for naturalisation: (a) He
.
must be a major (majority age is 18 years), (b) He must be of good
conduct and character, (c) He must have lawful means of living just
enough for his needs.
According to Article 4, a foreigner who has afforded valuable
services to the State of Oman can be granted an Omani nationality
r'-l by a Sultani Decree, irrespective of the conditions required for
:
naturalisation, in accordance with Article 2 of the Law. The wife
and children of a foreigner who has obtained nationality by
naturalisation maybe granted Omani nationality without applying to
them the conditions required for naturalisation in accordance with
Article 2 of the Law. (Art. 5)
A foreign woman married to an Omani can acquire Omani
nationality by a decision from the Minister of Interior, at her own
request. (Art. 6)
A foreigner who acquires Omani nationality is entitled to all civil
rights from the date of his naturalisation. However, he cannot
practice his public and political rights before the completion of 10
years from the said date. (Art. 7)
An Omani can lose his Omani nationality if he acquires a foreign
nationality after obtaining permission to do so by a Sultani Decree.
(Art. 9)
An Omani woman who marries a foreigner retains her Omani
nationality, unless she requests to acquire her husband’s nationality
and the law of her husband grants her the said nationality. (Art. 10)
Article 11 deprives an Omani of his nationality by a Sultani
Decree in the following cases:
1 Anyone who has obtained an Omani nationality as a result of a
J&i false statement or deceit or cheating.
2 Anyone proved to believe in unreligious principles and beliefs,
or anyone who belongs to a group or a party which adopts
unreligious principles.
3 Anyone proved to be in the service of a foreign state in any
capacity, whether inside or outside Oman, if he does not
respond to an Omani Government’s notice calling on him to give
up the said service within a specified period.
4 Anyone proved to work for the interest of an enemy state.
