attention, most kindly observed in his reply to Mr. lteinaud’s communication
that “Mr. Mnnesty has now completed his friendship towards me. Ho is my
real, sincere, and faithful friend, and l will always consider his wishes as my
own." Tho Pacha then requested Mr. Rcinaud to receivo another letter for
me, which would he sent to him on tho following day for spoedy transmission
and charged him to bo most particular in his communications to mo respecting
tho satisfaction which ho (tho Pacha) felt in my friendly conduct towards him.
“Tho Pacha’s socoud letter, which was a peculiarly kind and pleasing one,
contained a roquest that I would porseyero in my friendly disposition towards
him, and take such moasures in conjunction with tho Mussalecm to prevent
the threatened attacks of Syud Sultan, as I might deem politic and expedient
and tending to the preservation of his honor and the security of the country.
Previous to the receipt of tho Pacha’s second letter, the Mussaleom reooivod
repli.es to his letters to Syud Sultan and Shaik Suggur. A negotiation com­
menced botween the Mussaloem and Moolla Ibrahim Ali, the Commander of
tho Maskat Annual Coffee P leet then lying at Buchire, which I did not find it
necessary to interfere. The dispute between the Pacha and Syud Sultan, of
which I had long foreseen the issue, has been amicably settled, the Maskat fleet
has repaired toBussorah, and’aotual friendly intercourse has taken place between
the Turkish Government and subjects of the Imam. Thus Honourable Sir,
without taking ono single measure or exposing the nation or the Honourable
Company to the sma llest political difficulty, I have in the Pacha’s estimation
rendered him a most esse nlial service, and given him the most unequivocal
proof of my being authorized by you and personally inclined to promote his
interests on ail occasions.”

the Hon’ble Jonathan Duncan, dated 22nd July (received 22nd August) 1799.
.y f Your Honor’s dispatches & Ship May for my master the Nuwab, Mebedi
reception at Shiraz' Ali Khan, arrived here in safety on the 1st July, and every instantly forwarded
by an express Kasid to Shiraz, the 6eat of learning, where be still remains.
The May, however, has made such a quick passage to and from Bussora, that
I have not at present tho honor of transmitting you his reply, of which I am
in hourly expectation.
Yesterday hove in sight a two masted vessel from Bombay upon which
I immediately dispatched a boat on hoard of her, to ascertain whe ther the
Captain intended coming on shore. She kept on her course, however, to
Bussorq without even lying to for the boat, which had nearly reached her so
that I conjecture, she could not have been tho bearer of any of your letters to
tho Nuwab’s address or she would no doubt have cast anchor at Bushire.
Prom Iran wo have received intelligence, that His Majesty has proceeded
projected•ipcdltionin person to Kliorasson, at the head of an expedition, wliioh has nothing less
y>ID"n for its ohjeots than tho subjugation of Zeman Shah’s dominions. Of his
attaining this there can ho little doubt and the whole country is already in
oommotion at his approach. Tho soat of tho Boyal presence at this moment is
Mushhcd, tho holy city, botwoen whioh City and Shiraz tho Nuwab has
