CXCIV.
To—The Honorable tho Court of Directors for Affaire of the United Compauy of
Merchants of Eugland trading to the East Indies.
Honobable Gentlemen,
Latter from agency The Agent’s ill-heath, the almost general sickness which has lately
atBmtiL.
reigned among Us, the multiplicity of business occasioned by fresh troubles in
this Gulph and by the ships returning from hence to India: these have been
the causes of and we hope will excuse Us to your Honors f ar the long detention
of the Duplicate Packet received from Bombay & the Resolution; it is now
however forwarded to Aleppo by Messengers express, aud we hope that the
speedy and safe arrival of the Original, dispatched from hence the 2nd July will
have rendered of no consequence this tardy dispatch of the Duplicates.
2. In our last respects of the forogoing date of which the enclosed is a
duplicate we informed your Honors of a report then current here that the
Carrack Gallivats under Hossein Caun had in consequence of Carem Caun,
sailed to the southward, in order to make prizes of all the vessels without excep
tion whioh they could master.
3. We paid little regard to tbio report, because we had several groundless
ones to the same purport ever since our factory at Busbire was withdrawn,
and indeed we flattered ourselves that Carem Caun, the King of Persia, had
too great a regard for bis oharaoter however despicable it before might be,
not to render it entirely so, by adding without the least provocation the crimo
of piraoy to it.
