                    With reference to the correspondence ending with
                                                      dated the 19th
             Sir Frederick Johnston's letter No, 5-S  • 1
             January 1929, 1 have the honour to forward a copy of a
             letter »  no. C/74, dated tne 22nd May 1929, from the
             Political Agent at Bahrain reporting that the Deputy
             Ruler of Bahrain naB renewed ms request to retain the
             services of s:.v. C.“3.L. de urenier in nis present appointment
             of Director of Customs, Bahrain*.
             2.     idr. de Grenier nus a contract for an indefinite
             period terminable at three months' notice from either
             party.
             3.     When 1 went to Bahrain as political Agent in
             September 1926, Mr. de Grenier was undor a cloud and I
             gave particular atteution to observing nis work. i found
             it to bo of excellent quality. Mr. de Grenier, while
             enforcing the State regulations, went out of hia way to he
             tactful and obliging *to the merchants with whom he had

             dealings, and is now deservedly populur with them. At
             the same time, owing to his honesty and sense of duty, he
             commands the respeot of Shaikh Warned.
