forward, is the cause of its being as it now is, in its naked state,
instead of being well and gaudily dressed, fit to enter into the
best society, as 1 at one time expected the Darling Child of my
brain would have been. But you, my dear children of my
body, must have a kindly feeling for your brother in misfortune
and look upon him with the affection which is naturally pro
duced from knowing that you have sprung from the same sire.
                           Believe me, my dear children,
to be your most sincere and affectionate father,
                                                          Francis E. Loch.
I am glad to think that 130 years after Loch wrote this letter
to his children ‘the Darling Child’ of his brain will see the light
                     of day.
