The first six plates arc taken from the collection of sixteen, published in
April 1813 by W. Haines, of 10 South Molton Street, London. They were
drawn by Major R. Temple of H.M. 65th Regiment, and are described on the
title page as ‘Sixteen views in the Persian Gulf taken in the years 1809-10, illus
trative of the Forces employed on the Expedition sent from Bombay under
the command of Captain Wainwright of H.M.S. Chiffonc and Licut.-Colonel
Smith of H.M. 65th Regiment against the Arabian Pirates’, and the book is
dedicated to Licut.-Colonel L. Smith and the Officers of H.M. 65 th Regiment.
