The early part of the year was fairly free from road accidents but there was a gradual increase
in accidents with the coining of the hot weather and a sharp increase just after Ramadhan. It is
not unlikely that during the hot part of the year and after the month of fasting the public are more
mentally sluggish than during the cold weather. A " Black spot " for accidents was the road from
the Adviserate to the Manama-Muharraq causeway, passing through the thickly populated district
of Ras Rumaan. Numerous accidents, in some cases fatal, occurred on this short stretch of road,
this was very naturally resented by the inhabitants of the quarter who expressed their feelings by
stoning several cars and attacking the drivers. The situation was remedied when the Government
erected a fence along both sides of the street with two pedestrian crossings provided with islands.
Recommendations were made to the Education Department to erect safety rails at school exits,
though upto now there is no recoid of any number of accidents having occurred in the vicinity of
schools.
