        Letter, dated August 11, 1934, from the Kuwait Oil Company, conveying the
              re-affirmation in reply to (d) above

            I am instructed by the Directors of the Kuwait Oil Company, Limited to
        acknowledge receipt of your letter No. P.Z. 4678/34, and enclosures, of
        24th July, 1934.
            2.  The Directors of the Company instruct me to state that they accept as
        binding on the Company the arrangements embodied in Colonel Dickson’s letter
         No. C. 189 of 23rd May, 1934, to His Excellency the Shaikh of Kuwait and the
        latter’s reply of 26th May, 1934.
            3.  The Directors further instruct me to state that as desired by His
        Excellency the Company will in no case publish the arrangements in question.
            4.  It is noted that the Political Agent, in his letter of 23rd May to His
        Excellency, referred to Articles 11 and 18 of the Commercial Agreement which is
        in process of negotiation between the Shaikh and the Company. In the event of
        any re-numbering of the Articles of the draft Commercial Agreement becoming
         necessary, it is understood that the Articles referred to by the Political Agent are
         those of which copies are attached hereto.

         Political Agreement between Her Majesty’s Government and the D’Arcy Kuwait
              Company replacing the Political Agreement of March 5, 1934, with the
              Kuwait Oil Company (No. 2 above), dated December 11, 1952
            This Agreement dated the eleventh day of December one thousand nine
         hundred and fifty-two, is made between Her Majesty’s Government in the United
         Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (hereinafter called “ Her Majesty's
         Government ”) of the one part and the D'Arcy Kuwait Company Limited of the
         other part.
             Whereas by instrument dated 30lh November, 1951, the Kuwait Oil Company
         Limited (which has since changed its name to D’Arcy Kuwait Company Limited),
         with the consent of the Shaikh of Kuwait (hereinafter called “ the Shaikh "),
         assigned and conveyed unto the Gulk Kuwait Company, its permitted successors
         and assigns, an undivided one-half interest in all of the right, title, and interest of
         the Kuwait Oil Company Limited in and to the oil concession Agreement (herein­
         after referred to as “ the Concession ”) of 23rd December, 1934 between the Shaikh
         and the Kuwait Oil Company Limited and in and to all of the rights, privileges,
         and interests of the Kuwait Oil Company Limited based upon or derived from the
         Concession and also an undivided one-half interest in certain other assets of the
         Kuwait Oil Company Limited described in the said instrument of assignment;
            And Whereas on the occasion of this assignment it is desirable to conclude a
         new Political Agreement between the Company and Her Majesty’s Government
         to replace the Political Agreement of 5th March, 1934;
            Her Majesty’s Government hereby confirm their consent to the above-
         mentioned assignment, notwithstanding the terms of the Agreement between His
         Majesty’s Government and the Kuwait Oil Company Limited dated 5th March,
         1934; and
            The D’Arcy Kuwait Company has agreed with Her Majesty’s Government as
         follows, notwithstanding anything contained in the Concession: —
             1.  In this Agreement the expression “ the Company ” means the D’Arcy Kuwait
                  Company and, in Articles 3 to 15 and the Schedule to this Agreement,
                  shall be deemed to include its successors and any transferee Company
                  and any subsidiary or operating Company that may be created in
                  connexion with the operation of the Concession.
            2.  The Company, any transferee Company and any subsidiary Company that
                  may be created in connexion with the Company’s operations under the
                  Concession shall, except with the prior consent in writing of Her
                  Majesty’s Government, be and remain a British Company registered in
                  Great Britain and having its principal place of business in Great Britain.
