             30. Lieutenant I. Mac-Ivor was on privilege leave from 25th August
         to 1st December 1832.
             37. Assistant Surgeon Abdur Raheem Hakeem, Khan Bahadur,       was
         appointed Native Assistant to the Resident from 10th May 1882j and
         assumed charge of his new duties on 21st August 1382.
             33. Mr. G. Lucas was appointed to be British Vice-Consul at Bushire
          from 20th March 1883.
                                         Naval.
             39. Her Majesty's ships Dryad left the station in July 1882 and
          Heady in May, Her Majesty's ships Woodlark and Arab have been al­
          most continuously on the station during the year. Her Majesty's ship
          Mclvpsc was in the Gulf from February to April 1883, and Her Majesty's
          ship Philomel joined the station iil December.

                                      Observatory.
             40.  The results of the observations which have been carefully and
          successfully taken during the year 1882-83 (the sixth year)  arc sum-
          marized in the tables forming Appendix A, 'fables 1 to 6.
             41.  The summer of 1882 was comparatively moderate at Bushire,
          and the “ barih," or Arabian monsoon winds commonly called the “ hurra
          shemal," blew from the latter part of May, wiih intermissions, until
          July.
             42.  The autumn and winter rains fell seasonably and amply. From
          the absence of the usual boisterous and bleak winds, the winter appeared
          milder than usual on the Persian coast.
             43.  The harvests have been abundant.
