CUSTOMS DEPARTMENT
(Report by Mr. G. W. R. Smith, Director of Customs and Port Officer.)
The revenue collected by the Customs Department from all sources including boat licences,
exceeded last year’s revenue by Rs. 7,83,903, and exceeded the amount which was anticipated in the
budget by Rs. 11,53,468.
The increased revenue may be attributed to more and more consumer goods becoming available
in exporting countries, particularly Great Britain and America, and to increased cargoes for Petroleum
Development (Qatar) Ltd., which pay Bahrain Customs transit dues.
There was no fall in the price of commodities, and in the case of motor cars, prices rose steeply
with each successive consignment.
