Captain Moresby having completed the
Eastern Coast, the Palinurus proceeded to
Ras Bernos, the spot at which their labours
terminated on her former voyage, in order to
survey the unexplored part of the Nubian
coast to Cape Calmez.
We first anchored under Cape Nose, a name
which its appearance sanctions, and which
has consequently been retained on our map.
Near the extremity of a low sandy spot, pro
jecting in a southerly direction from the base
of some moderately elevated hills, stands a
rude tomb, constructed of wood. In earlier
times, it served as a land-mark to the mariner,
and is now occasionally resorted to again
for devotional purposes by the Arabs. It
