postal service (not yet a Post Office in the full sense) was set up in his
office about May 20th, 1950, and from that date mail was accepted for
transmission to Bahrain. The volume of mail from local British
residents, other than the oil company staff (whose mail continued,
for the time being, to be sent to Bahrain under company arrangements)
                was very small.

As no Post Office canceller had been received, the Bahrain stamps
(overprinted on G.B.) used on the first two batches of mail despatched
on May 21st and 23rd, were cancelled with the Political Officer’s office
stamp (Type 1). The hyphen between the two figures of date, and the stop
between month and year are common to both dates.
