The next cancellation (Type 3) was undoubtedly intended for
back-stamping inward mail, but is known used to cancel stamps on out
going mail between 1902 and 1912. The ‘squared circle’ was followed,
for the specific purpose of cancelling stamps, by the small double
double circle with date-band across (Type 4), which is found almost
exclusively on the King Edward VII and Early King George V Indian
                    stamps.
Once again it is mainly 3 pies, and Yl anna and 1 anna that were
used, generally on the reverse of covers, sealing the flap. There were,
however, occasional uses of higher values up to 3 annas, and the 2
rupees is known with this cancellation used in June 1908.

A registered cover of 1908: the stamps on the reverse
(Edward VII, three 1 anna and one Vi anna) are cancelled
                         with Type 4.
