Type 8 Type 9
Dubai was originally supplied with small blank numbered Regis
tration Labels on which the name was either inscribed in manuscript or
impressed with a hand-stamp (Type 8); both methods were in use
during the war years. The boxed Registration cachet (Type 9) was
introduced after the war (seen 1946—1948), and was invariably im
pressed directly on to the cover.

Other postal markings include the Postage Due cachet (Type 10)
which was used from 1909, and Type 11 which had replaced it by
early 1942. An unusual use of this cachet in 1943 was to apply the
name ‘Dubai’ to a blank Registration Label!
THE PAKISTAN OVERPRINTS
The Dubai Post Office, hitherto administered from Karachi by
the Government of India, came under the control of Pakistan following
Partition in August 1947. In early October, unoverprinted Indian
stamps were replaced by those overprinted PAKISTAN at Nasik. All
values from 3p to 2r. were placed on sale at Dubai and continued in use
until March 31st, 1948. As with the previous Indian stamps, the use of
Pakistan stamps in Dubai can only be identified by the cancellations
(Types 6 and 7). They are all scarce on piece, and on cover are rare.
At least one fervent Pakistani, resident in Dubai, took the trouble to
