2. Rise up and to the side—NOT straight back up. The movement should be to
the dead (i.e., punching) side. In other words, against a left hook, rise up and to
your right. Against a right hook, rise up and to your left. Generally, the rising
movement should be forward as well as to the side. This puts you in a good
position to counterattack.
