HEADLOCK WHILE MOUNTED
Groundfighting
Another fairly common attack, especially among less-experienced grapplers, is a
headlock from the mounted position. In rape or sexual assault scenarios,
versions of this attack are made when the attacker wants to taunt the defender,
whisper to him/her, or kiss. This technique also works when the attacker is
actually choking with his hands, but his elbows are very bent to allow him to get
close. The defense against this attack is a simple trap-and-roll.
STARTING POSITION: On the ground, face up, with an attacker straddling
you and holding you in a headlock.
1–3. As the attacker comes in close to put his weight on you, trap the arm that is
making the hold and the leg on the same side. Buck your hips upward and, at the
top of the arch, roll your hips toward the trapping side. You will likely end up in
his guard. If he is still holding you, push the blade of your forearm across his
face (a “crossface”) to force him to let go, then continue with counterattacks.
