FORWARD ROLL

               Falls and Rolls

The main goal of a safe roll is to limit the amount of time spent rolling over the

spine. Therefore, the roll is made on a diagonal from one shoulder to the
opposite hip. This means the movement along the ground crosses the spine at
only one point. These instructions assume you are right-handed. Switch “right”
to “left” and vice versa if you are left-handed.

STARTING POSITION: Step forward with your right foot.

               1. Bend down and place your right hand flat on the ground with your fingers
pointing to the left. Place your left hand on the ground with the fingers facing
forward. This position should cause your right shoulder to “lead” the motion.
Tuck your chin under your left armpit (the more you tuck your chin, the safer

               your neck will be).
