In the 1980’s North Americans were
welcoming a whole new culture of people;
the Vietnamese, Laotian and Cambodian
refugees.
Mennonites, with memories of a persecuted
past, as well as international relief experience
through Mennonites Central Committee
(MCC) understood the problem as well as the
potential for a response.
The need expanded and under the direction
of a Board consisting of appointees from
the First Mennonite, Holyrood Mennonite,
Faith Mennonite and Lendrum Mennonites
Churches, what we have as Edmonton
Newcomer Centre was started. Today, we
stand upon the foundation laid by pioneers
and visionaries from bricks of compassion,
service to mankind and passion for a
collective good.
