Perhaps the most celebrated draft resister of his day was the late Muhammad
Ali. As far as he was concerned, the war in Vietnam was not his fight. His fight—
the fight for racial justice—was closer to home. Or as he memorably put it, “No
Beebe Lake (2003) Viet Cong ever called me a Nigger.” Man definitely had a way with words.
