Oil Recycling
As a nation we are becoming more educated, aware, and concerned about the impact of our lifestyle choices
we are having on our planet.
Over the past few months a conscious effort has been made to be more environmentally friendly at Delaware
North. Our procurement team organised for one company to supply our rapeseed oil and collect waste oil for
recycling.
Recycling oil has huge environmental benefits. Oil will no longer be dumped into landfills or where poured
down drains contaminating and polluting local water systems. Millions of gallons of used cooking oil enter
the oceans, disrupting ecosystems and killing marine life.
Taking all this into account, on 1st July 2019 we started recycling oil. After 3 months the stats are in.
We purchased 28,465 Litres of oil, 70% of that was recycled. That’s 18 tonnes of oil recycled and
42 tonnes of carbon saved!
The CO2 saving is astonishingly the equivalent of an average of 140 cars being removed from the roads each
month. Finally, the grand total cost of saving in 3 months over the previous supply and recycling route is a
staggering £16,767.
We look forward to eventually rolling this out to all our locations in the future to make for a greener
workforce.
