1. Why are you interested in the YPCE Director opportunity with the City of Sacramento? Why are you
actively or passively looking for a new position?
Significantly larger community that what she has been working in; looking to expand; grew up in
Sacramento and relocating there is very attractive; went to Sac State for a while as she began her
Master's program (didn't finish); very excited about the City's strategic plan, was very impressed with
how it was presented and the engagement it took to put that together; website was easy to navigate;
has been in the field for 30 years
2. Please describe your most recent position and daytoday responsibilities.
Oversees two major divisions, maintenance and recreation; also responsible for the maintenance of
landscaping; public advisory commission, senior advisory, and parks and rec commissions. Day to day
is firefighting and cheerleading. Many retirements and individuals being promoted; she is very
invested in training and developing her staff, oversees all the departments divisions so she reads the
staff reports and edits them; introduced a sponsorship program and received a reward for their
concert series; revenue is $80K in sponsorships; parks and rec foundation; hometown heroes; museum
recognized as a historical site; just updated the strategic plan; monitors the budget for landscape and
lighting, CIP, and maint. $7.4M
3. How many employees do you supervise? Who do you report to?
Reports to the Town Manager; has 20 FTE and in the summer 50, has two division managers and an
assistant

4. Describe your experience with each of the three areas of the department: Youth, Parks, and
Community Engagement.
Youth: 3 tiny tots programs; summer day camp; teen program that is popular; has two Youth
Commissioners on the parks commission to have a youth voice; has a good relationship with the
school district; works closely with the schools to provide enrichment programs on site; music, arts,
sports classes all year long
Parks: 155 acres and 19 parks, trail system, street scapes that are either median or in subdivisions;
inspect 20 playgrounds regularly and have banned glycosphate; computerized water irrigation system;
parks are divided into four quadrants and have a Sr. MW and a lower level in each park area as a team,
every year they switch the lower level person to a different Sr to continue their learning and
development
