Why are you interested in the Director of Public Works position with the City of Sacramento?
Tell me a bit about what you know about the City.

Returned to Manteca for more responsibilities. I made good success on finding a new grant for moving
forward a major project. I am moving towards the age where I can work very actively for the next 10
years. Sacramento has always been a place that I want to move. My son is graduating from high school,
so it is a great time to move.

Please describe your most recent position and day-to-day responsibilities.

I'm leading several projects. Deputy Director - I am actually acting Director - I go to Council for
presentations all the time to provide a major project plans and strategies, including funding. My specialty
in terms of the level of position, I know how to bring in a level of funding. I brought in a lot of funding so
that I can move forward the wish list. That is my specialty. In order to make that happen, I go to the
Council first to create a relationship. I need to understand the political issues. I need to make a really
good balance between Council and City Manager - that is my key role at this point.

Please describe a project in which you played a major role in creating pathways for
improvement for those in your community.

The reason we chose DDR CalTrans was very conservative they did not want to adopt a new design.
This is not only the first DDI in California, but I put in a lot of effort to make it happen. The problem is
that, during the process it was not just locating the poles PG&E and CalTrans were fighting each other.
Because of that problem, the project was almost cancelled. As the project manager, I contacted the
Senator because sometimes the politicians can help for these types of major problems, because of
those legal issues we were stuck. I worked with the Assemblyman and I changed all the directions and
legal issues and eventually we moved forward with the project. I think it tells a lot about the project
               management capabilities.

Please describe your experience in evaluating innovation and operational procedure utilized
in a City department and your approach to staying at the forefront of industry.

This morning there was a big announcement from the City. They nominated me as the Employee of the
Year. I look into ways to find funding. Another example is, we have payment issues everywhere. How
can we resolve the payment issues. After five years of repair we are seeing the same issues. I came up
with ideas around optimizing design and funding. I developed some new paver designs in-house and we
               saved in cost.

Please describe your experience in the areas of public transportation and traffic reduction.

I'm managing the entire transit system for Manteca - the transit is public transportation, so I need to
make a really strong balance between vehicles and public transportation. When I first took over I found
that there were many problems. For the last 1.5 years, I worked with regional entities around
transportation, we worked together and we optimized the systems. We installed a brand-new app for the
mobile system. That is improving the public's attention. Now I am seeing more ridership in Manteca.
Because we have a lot of issues with more cars and vehicles, it is really important to understand the
public transportation system not just the process of the payment system. Also, I worked with CalTrans
