Why are you interested in the Director of Public Works position with the City of Sacramento?
Tell me a bit about what you know about the City.

Sacramento I think is a huge City - it is a great opportunity for me to expand my knowledge and skills - I
would like to take on that challenge in taking on a greater City. It's large in terms of size and services, so
I think it's a huge challenge. I am open to change - my family doesn't mind the idea of moving. What I
know about Sacramento - it is huge- you're looking for someone who is experienced in several areas -
and I have actually done all of them - public works has been my entire career. I feel that I have the
personality, education, to take on the challenges with the City of Sacramento.

I have a BS in Political Science, 20 years overall in PERS - I have a very outgoing, easy going
personality - I can communicate and talk to people of all levels, starting with maintenance staff, field
staff - I have experience dealing with elected officials, dealing with environmental justice groups - dealing
               with residents.

Oversee public works: engineering, transit, traffic, transportation, solid waste, environmental services,
               NPDS, water, water quality.

Please describe your most recent position and day-to-day responsibilities.

I'm currently the Director of Public Works and Facilities - have been a director going on 8 years now. My
day to day changes every day. Everything is different everyday and I love it. My day to day - last week I
had a water rate meeting with the community, which was translated in Spanish and English
concurrently - next week I have a neighborhood meeting in a resident's front yard. Every day is different.
Tomorrow I have a meeting with a potential developer to talk about right away tapes.

Please describe a project in which you played a major role in creating pathways for
improvement for those in your community.

We have a complete streets plan - which is the first every plan in terms of getting feedback from the
public - it was funding that we got from CalTrans- there are four community workshops that we have to
do. The next phase is to get it blessed by the public and approved by the Council - we are going to
chase grants - we got a lot of feedback from the community - asking why we have never done this
before. This is the first of its kind - and it was new to the community to my council, we made sure we
planned through our Council to make sure they weren't surprised by what was being recommended.
Road diets can be a no-no.

Please describe your experience in evaluating innovation and operational procedure utilized
in a City department and your approach to staying at the forefront of industry.

I have been tasked with upgrading City facilities overall. For me it is more of a capital approach. For my
first step would be a needs assessment and then assessing the cost of it, then find a way to fund it.
That's an example of what I'm doing in terms of capital projects.

What I've done recently with my water - what I've recently done - is once again, changes haven't been
made for 15 years. We installed SCADA - it has helped the City save 20,000 dollars per month. My
approach is looking at the needs. We went ahead and installed software just to maintain the City
remotely -the SCADA system allowed the City to respond. We saved a lot of time money by installing
               SCADA in our water system.

Please describe your experience in the areas of public transportation and traffic reduction.

That's what I recently did for a Metro project. We work with LA Metro as a transit agency in terms of
