Practice Printing and Cursive
Each lesson should be printed out to provide students the opportunity to develop printing and
penmanship skills. The two writing skills are usually practiced separately but may be practiced
simultaneously on the same sheet of paper. Parents should check the completed sheets to make
sure they are done correctly. The exercises herein serve as an adjunct to the Printing and
Cursive Exercises, which is one of the Basic Six PDFs.

Preparation for Reading
By clicking on sentence after sentence repeatedly and hearing the words read out loud, students
will actually be learning to read. Moreover, they will be in good stead to begin formal reading
lessons of The Red Well-Read Reader.

Speaking Fluency
To make each sentence sound as it is heard in everyday parlance, most of the them are written
at a much higher level than what is commonly seen in beginning basal readers. Consequently,
many of the sentences will not be fully understood by the young users. Not to worry, these
sentences are no different than those that children hear but don’t understand spoken by their
parents and other adults. There is no downside to this. Quite the contrary, the more such
iterations are heard, the sooner they will be understood. The result is a gain in students’ ability
to express themselves in a most intelligent manner. That having been said, parents must always
be within earshot of their children to provide them with frequent assistance.
