Story 129
The Deer Hunters
When Bill went to hunt for deer,
With Joe his buddy and peer,
His wife gave him a scornful fleer,
And declared with a nasty sneer,
“ How can you two shoot a deer?”
Then her eyes began to tear.
Nevertheless, the men grabbed their hunting gear.
Down the road some they stopped for beer.
Now beer is excellent for good cheer,
But it may make your vision blear,
And also make your judgment veer,
Thus, altering the way things appear.
In light of this it is not so queer,
To mistake a cow for a deer.
So, when Joe shot the farmer’s steer,
That angry man made it quite clear,
By shouting loudly in their ear,
That if they so much as go near,
His homestead the following year,
He would make their scalps his souvenir!
