        Story 115

                                                        Steamed

The early morning sun rose finding Rasheem sitting upon a wooden beam. As water

for coffee began to steam, he heard a loud scream ! He wondered, “Was

Shaakeem having a bad dream ? No! While washing she had fallen into the stream.

This made him laugh and laugh ‘til he nearly burst at the seam. But to Shaakeem it

didn’t seem like such a “ scream.” She thought he was mean and said, “ Rasheem,

this seems like the end of our marriage dream.”

        Story 116

                                                  The Wrong Theme

Eileen declared, “Writing a theme seems a bit extreme. My effort would need be

supreme. First I’d have to devise a scheme, then da dat . . . da dat . . . da dat.

Soon problems would teem, my brain would steam, and I’d likely scream.

So instead of writing a difficult theme, I think I’ll hum my carefree theme,

fishing for bream in a mountain stream.”

Ironic as it does seem, Eileen, who previously didn’t deem highly of academe, got

an “F” which devastated her self-esteem.
