Julienne Alumni
Simpson
Julienne Simpson graduated in 2017. During
her years at Salesian College she was intrigued and specialise particularly in paediatrics.
by the sciences, in particular Biology.
Learning about the body and the way it
functioned sparked an interest. It pushed her
into the direction of pursuing medicine into
the future.
While she loved biology, in addition, Julienne
enjoyed the challenge of learning the Italian
language. She feels knowledge of another
language is important in society, and the Italian
culture and language was one she found
interesting and compelling.
While in Year 12, Julienne applied for the
Franco Schiavoni Memorial Scholarship.
It is a scholarship through which Franco
Schiavoni can be remembered in a practical
manner through which his dedication to
learning and to the Italian culture can be
maintained and fostered.
This scholarship is awarded to students who
demonstrate a passion for the Italian language
and culture. After a lengthy application process
involving written applications, evidence of
studies and an interview, Julienne was given
this prestigious award.
“This scholarship enabled me to have the
funds to continue studying Italian at university,
alongside my Bachelor of Biomedicine at
Monash University”, said Julienne.

“In the future I wish to go on to study Medicine

I am very passionate about pursuing”.
“While doing this, and perhaps in the duration
of my studies, I would love to travel to Italy and
complete some of my study on an exchange
program at a University there. Eventually I
would love to work in hospitals or practises
in rural or regional Australian locations”.
“The values which were instilled in me
at Salesian College I have taken with me
in my next chapter. Caring for others,
especially those who have or are going
through tough times, is something I find
great fulfilment in doing”.
More recently, Julienne has become a
volunteer for the organisation ‘Challenge-
Supporting Kids with Cancer.’ It is an
organisation which provides a range of
ongoing support and recreational activities
for families living with cancer. It attempts to
support these families and children in the
journey from diagnosis, throughout treatment
and beyond.
It is with great pride we congratulate Julienne
on both of these outstanding achievements
and wish her well as she continues her studies.
