3.2 Chicks Management / DOC / DOD (Where and Where applicable)

Upon arrival, chick box liners, pooled organs, feed and water samples are
collected for Salmonella detection. The chicks are then treated with prescribed

approved antibiotic for 3 to 4 days to control bacterial infections and reduce early
chick mortality. Vitamins and electrolytes are given as and when necessary to

reduce stress. After the 21st day, no antibiotics are given to prevent drug residue
in meat. Acidifiers are instead administered in drinking water to improve gut

               health.

Cloacal swabs are taken at day 21 to check for Salmonella. Flocks which are

positive for Salmonella will not be designated for export. The farm management
and health programme will hence be scrutinized and drastic control measures will

be introduced in the farm to attain Salmonella free status.
