A LETTER FROM OUR OFFICERS
As we continue through these unprecedented times, we look back at the tragic history of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and consider the many challenges and struggles that this new pandemic has introduced to the world.
We are proud of our work and endurance, and we stand in awe of our community partners who have battled two pandemics as they’ve continued caring for people living with HIV while also responding to COVID-19. We also revere the work of all the healthcare practitioners, first responders, and essential workers who have worked tirelessly and courageously to help keep our country and our world safe and moving during these unprecedented times.
And of course, we are grateful to you and to all of our supporters for the unwavering care you showed to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation throughout 2020.
Like most charitable organizations, our fundraising results were significantly diminished as the
world responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, thanks to ETAF’s amazing team and stewardship, the foundation was able to stay flexible and continue all of its programs. As you review this Annual Activities Report, you will see highlights of our work, providing direct care and support to people living with HIV both here in the United States and in Malawi.
You will also notice a review of our advocacy work, of which we are particularly proud. Just as our founder, Elizabeth Taylor, fought for the most marginalized among us, ETAF has continued to speak often and boldly for people living with HIV and against the social injustices that the HIV/AIDS community continues to face.
Although COVID-19 has set back global efforts to end the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and immeasurably changed our way of life, we remain heartened in the tremendous spirit and innovation of individuals and societies worldwide. We also recognize the significant losses and struggles that many of us have faced
- and continue to face - around the world.
As always, and in particular during these unprecedented times, we remain firm in our commitment to being a constant and consistent voice as we work to realize Elizabeth’s vision of an AIDS-free world.
On behalf of the entire team at The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, we thank you for your untiring support throughout this challenging year. We hope you will remain partnered with us as we move closer to the end of two pandemics.
Wishing you health, safety, and happiness.
Barbara Berkowitz, Tim Mendelson, and Quinn Tivey
