FIGHTING TWO
PANDEMICS-
HIV AND COVID 19
All the infectious disease experts and organizations, including
Dr. Anthony Fauci, concur that the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the progress to end the global HIV/AIDS Pandemic. In addition to missing the 2020 UNAIDS Goal of 90-90-90 (to diagnose 90% of all people living with HIV (PLHIV), to treat 90% of people who know their status, and to suppress
the virus in 90% of people on treatment), most authorities have already indicated we will likely miss the 2030 goal of 95-95-95. While there are other factors that contribute to the achievement of these goals, it has been stated by Dr. Fauci that COVID-19 set back
the progress of ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic by at least 38%.
The shining light in the challenging year that has just passed is that most HIV direct service organizations were able to quickly adapt for COVID-19. Including establishing special funds to provide personal protective equipment, testing and treatment referrals for those impacted by COVID-19. Through close communication and partnership, ETAF was able to remain flexible in our agreements with grantees.
