PREVENTION AND TREATMENT
   HIV/AIDS PANDEMIC UPDATE
Huge strides have been made in the prevention and treatment of HIV and AIDS. PrEP continues to be a crucial component to both. According to studies, taking PrEP daily reduces the risk of transmitting HIV from sex by about 99% (CDC.gov). With tools like this available, we are now able to stop the spread of HIV, but we need to continue to work diligently because as a community, we are not reaching those who need these tools the most.
The Undetectable=Untransmittable (U=U) concept underscores the need for consistent treatment among those living with HIV. U=U means that an undetectable viral load (the amount of HIV in the blood) in people living with HIV through daily antiretroviral treatment will prevent the virus from being sexually transmitted to others.
